What Goes Into a 313 Glass Sliding Door
Every sliding door we install is engineered as a system. The frame, core, glazing, seals and ironmongery are specified together so the finished door performs as one — not as a collection of parts.
Thermally Broken Aluminium Frame
6063-T6 grade aluminium with a polyamide thermal break. Aluminium is the only material with the tensile strength to carry panels of 2.5m+ height with sightlines as slim as 20–35mm — uPVC simply can't span those distances without huge mullions.
Large-Format Sealed Glass Units
Each pane is a 28mm low-iron, soft-coat low-e, argon-filled double-glazed unit. Low-iron glass removes the green tint you see in standard glass, so the view through a slider stays neutral and crisp — important when a single pane can be 3m+ wide.
Stainless Tandem Roller System
Each sliding leaf rides on two pairs of stainless tandem rollers in a recessed bottom track. Heavier 'lift-and-slide' systems use a geared handle that lifts the leaf off the track before sliding — letting one person move a 200kg+ panel with one finger.
Recessed / Pocket Tracks
On new-builds and extensions we can recess the track into the floor screed and pocket the fixed panel into the wall, so the closed door reads as a flush glass wall with no visible aluminium at top, bottom or side.
Multi-Point Locking & PAS 24
Hook-bolt multi-point locks engage into the receiver as the door closes, with a 3-star anti-snap cylinder and laminated inner glass leaf on the master panel. System is independently tested to PAS 24:2022.
Drained & Weathered Threshold
Even the flush thresholds have an internal drained channel cut into the track, with weep holes carrying rainwater outwards. Critical detail in UK weather — the difference between a slider that's dry in February and one that isn't.
Finishes Worth Looking At Twice
The difference between a good door and a great one usually comes down to the finish. These are the details we obsess over.
Ultra-Slim Sightlines
Premium systems achieve as little as 20mm between glass panes on the meeting stile. That's roughly half the visual footprint of a typical bi-fold — the closest you can get to a frameless glass wall.
Powder-Coated Frames
Polyester powder coat in any RAL — matt, satin or textured. Anthracite 7016, Jet Black 9005 and Pure White 9010 are the most-specified; we'll bring samples so you see the finish in your own light before committing.
Hardware & Handle Options
Flush pull handles, D-handles or full-height vertical bar handles in matched RAL or contrasting brushed stainless. On lift-and-slide systems, the geared handle is integrated into the leaf — a satisfying piece of engineering to use daily.
How a Sliding Door Actually Performs
Indicative figures for the systems we typically specify. Final values vary by glazing pack, frame size and configuration — we confirm them in writing on every quote.
With standard argon-filled double glazing. Drops to ~1.1 W/m²K with triple glazing. Meets Part L for new-builds and replacements.
Single panels up to 3m tall and 3m wide on lift-and-slide systems. Total run widths of 6m+ on a standard 2- or 3-track configuration.
Hook-bolt multi-point lock, anti-lift blocks, laminated inner pane on the master leaf and TS007 3-star anti-snap cylinder as standard.
Is a Sliding Door Right For You?
We won't sell you a door that doesn't fit your project. Here's an honest view of when this product is the right call — and when it isn't.
You're buying the view, not the opening
If the back of the house looks out over a garden, valley or skyline you actually want to look at every day, sliding doors are the right call. The slim frames and large panes mean what you see when the door is closed is almost entirely glass.
Wide openings (3.5m and up)
Sliders scale up far more elegantly than bi-folds. On a 5m or 6m opening, a 3-panel slider gives you two enormous panes of uninterrupted glass — a bi-fold across the same opening would chop the view into 5 or 6 narrow vertical strips.
Minimalist contemporary architecture
Flat-roof extensions, render-and-glass new-builds, architect-designed renovations — sliders sit naturally in this design language in a way that few other door types do. Specify pocketed sides and recessed tracks for the cleanest detail.
Households where the door stays mostly closed
If realistically the door will be opened a handful of times a year — for cleaning, deliveries, occasional summer entertaining — sliders give you the cinema-window experience day-to-day, with the opening function still there when you need it.
