PAS 24:2016 is a Publicly Available Specification developed by BSI. It sets enhanced security performance requirements for doors and windows — beyond what Building Regs alone require. It's the standard referenced by Secured by Design, most home-insurance policies, and new-build specifications.
PAS 24 tests a whole doorset or window (frame + hardware + glass, as it would be installed) against a defined attack methodology: forced-entry attempts using standard tools within a fixed time. The set has to remain secure throughout. The certificate is for the specific product configuration tested — small changes invalidate it.
A PAS 24 doorset uses a TS 007 rated cylinder — typically 3-star anti-snap, anti-pick, anti-bump. The cylinder can be uprated separately if needed. Never accept a 'PAS 24' door with a 1-star cylinder — it fails the intent of the standard even if the paperwork is valid.
Home insurers benchmark security around PAS 24-compliant doors and windows. Many policies offer premium discounts for PAS 24 accredited installations; some new-build warranty schemes require it as standard. Documented PAS 24 compliance also speeds claims after break-in attempts.
Ask your installer for the specific product certificate — a PAS 24 certificate is issued by an independent test house (BSi, Exova) and names the product, configuration and date. It's a valuable document; keep a copy with your FENSA certificate and any insurance documentation.
