Composite Door Colours: Black, Grey, Anthracite and More
The colour of a front door changes the whole face of a house, so it is worth choosing slowly.
The dark shades most people ask about
Black composite doors give a formal, classic look that suits Victorian and Edwardian terraces as well as modern homes, especially with chrome or polished hardware. Grey and anthracite are the modern favourites: they look crisp against red brick and pale render and pair naturally with anthracite window frames. A lighter grey softens the effect for cottages and rendered houses.
Beyond grey and black
Composite doors are also available in richer colours such as deep greens, blues and reds, and in woodgrain effects for a timber look without the upkeep. Our range page and door colours brochure show what is available; the colour is part of the door skin, so it does not need repainting.
Inside and outside
The outside colour faces the street, but the inside face is part of your hallway. Many people choose a bold outside colour with white inside to keep the hall light, while others match the inside to internal doors. Tell us your preference at quotation.
Hardware and glass complete the look
A black door with brass furniture reads very differently from the same door in chrome or matt black hardware. Glass designs, sidelights and a house number in the toplight all change how the colour comes across. We bring samples to the free survey so you can see colour and finish together, at your own front step, in natural light.
Matching the rest of the house
If you are also replacing windows, consider the frame colours at the same time. An anthracite door with anthracite uPVC frames makes a strong coordinated front; a contrast colour door with white frames lets the door stand out. Fitting is by our FENSA and CERTASS registered installers, with the certificate on completion.
Living with a colour
A front door colour is something you see every day, so give yourself time. Photograph your house from the pavement and hold samples against the brickwork at different times of day, because a grey that looks warm in the evening can look cool on an overcast morning. If neighbours have similar houses, look at what works on theirs. We are happy to leave samples with you after the survey while you decide.
