uPVC Casement Windows, Standard and Flush
The side-hung and top-hung window most British homes are built around, made to measure in uPVC.
The everyday British window
Casement windows open outwards on hinges at the side or the top. Look along almost any street and most of the openings will be casements, often a mix of a fixed pane with one or two opening lights. They are simple to use, they keep the sill and the room clear because nothing swings inwards, and they can be arranged in almost any combination across a wide opening.
Because the layout is so flexible, a casement is usually where a replacement project starts. Top openers above a transom for gentle air, a side opener low enough to reach, a fixed centre panel for the view. We draw the arrangement to your opening rather than picking from a catalogue.
Standard sash or flush sash
A standard casement has the opening sash sitting slightly proud of the outer frame, which gives it a stepped, sculpted edge. A flush casement sits the sash level with the frame, which reads more like a traditional timber window and suits cottages, older terraces and houses where the original joinery was flush.
Both are uPVC and both are made to measure. The choice is mostly about the look you want from the street; our separate guide covers the finer differences if you are undecided.
Choosing finishes and glass
You can keep a crisp white frame or choose from woodgrain and colour foil finishes, including options that are different inside and out. Handles, hinges and restrictors are specified at quotation. For the glass, sealed units can include Planibel A low-emissivity glass for better heat retention, and obscure glass is available for bathrooms.
Security hardware is chosen with the sash profile in mind, so the locking points suit the size and weight of each opener.
Survey, fitting and paperwork
It starts with a free survey. We measure each opening, check the condition of the reveals and sills, and talk through the layout before any price is fixed. Installation is by FENSA and CERTASS registered fitters, and you receive the compliance certificate once the work is complete. Finance is available through our FCA-authorised arrangement (FCA 1055332) for anyone who prefers monthly payments.
Common questions
- Are casement windows only available in uPVC?
- All the windows we supply are uPVC. We do not supply timber or aluminium windows.
- Can I mix openers and fixed panes in one window?
- Yes. Each window is designed to its opening, so the number and position of openers is up to you.
